Mercury Abatement

ACUTE is an environmental contracting and Health and Safety training company with extensive experience in mercury abatement and remote work. ACUTE staff have been involved with projects at 18 light stations across the Great Lakes Region. ACUTE comprehensively plans each remote site project to anticipate equipment requirements while minimizing cargo space needed.
Mercury, because of its extremely low vapour pressure and high toxicity, persistently presents a hazard years after a spill, until all mercury has been removed. In the past mercury was often handled improperly as compared with today's practices, creating areas where contamination can be widespread. Mercury droplets were often painted into the many layers of paint that now cover most surfaces in the upper portions of light towers.
